The Patrick Kelly Intensive Stammering Programme is an 8-day Programme (a 6-day intensive residential programme, plus a 2-day follow up programme) for adults, that concentrates as much on the psychological issues as the actual speech production. For many adults, who have stammered for most of their lives, it is often the ‘psychological baggage’ that perpetuates and maintains their stammer.
The Patrick Kelly Intensive Stammering Programme is designed to identify these issues, to confront them and to accept them. The aim is for long-term control of their speech, but primarily to improve their lives by putting their stammer into perspective and not allowing it to control their lives To ensure effective therapy, there will be a maximum of 10 participants per Programme. . The Patrick Kelly Intensive Stammering Programme is unique in that it was created by a Speech and Language Therapist who also has a stammer, and who has spent most of his career specialising in stammering disorders. This combination has facilitated a unique insight into the world of a person who stammers, how stammering develops, and the most effective methods to treat the condition.
The Patrick Kelly Intensive Stammering Programme has a long and successful history. Since creating and running the first intensive programmes on behalf of the Irish Stammering Association in 1998, and then for the Health Service Executive (HSE) between 2000 and 2007, two courses per year have been run. These Programmes were fully funded by the HSE |
The next Programme will commence on Tuesday the 12th of October 2010 in the Greville Arms Hotel, Mullingar. See Contacts Page for further details. |
